Work From Home? Better to Work From Disney!

Table top at Epcot spread with papers, calendars, and to do lists.

This time of the year is sheer madness.  Any parent will tell you that the last month of school is full of a million things that need to get done:

concerts

volunteering

awards ceremonies

adjusted bell schedules

carpool changes

Not to mention any of the things you need to get done to actually cross off your “adulting” to do list.

This week I decided to change up the scenery for my Admin Day and I took myself down the road to Epcot.  Working from Disney is much more relaxing than working from home!

I arrived just after 10:30 (I had to go find a dress for my daughter to wear to a graduation party this weekend…cross that off the to do list) and after a brief stop at security (my laptop set off the metal detectors…next time I know to just take it out of my backpack), I swung into Starbucks for a pick me up and headed over to World Celebration.  This is the new garden and seating area before you make it to World Showcase.

At night it is BEAUTIFUL here.  The lighting is just gorgeous and it really is a lovely place to walk through.  (We spend most of our time at Epcot during the evening hours.) But during the daytime, it’s a secluded hideaway of tables, chairs, benches, and charging stations!  If you’re looking at the World Showcase, the left side is mostly Adirondack chairs with a few tables.  (Lots of charging stations, though!) And the right side is works stations…high top seating for sit/stand options, tables, and more charging stations!  The music is peaceful and it’s tucked away enough to allow for phone calls, if needed!

Right now, Epcot is hosting its annual International Flower & Garden Festival.  It is, by far, my favorite festival!  To be able to have a productive morning in this environment was just what I needed during this hectic time of the year.  I was relaxed.  I could smell the flowers blooming each time the breeze  blew my direction.  And it really was a great way to tackle so many administrative things on my to do list (emails sent, calendar updated, order the practice suit my daughter’s been begging me to buy with her birthday gift card…you get the idea).  It was just enjoyable.

For the record, I wasn’t alone.  When I arrived there were two other people Working from Disney.  As I look around right now, two hours later, we are all still here.

I even had a visitor…unsuccessfully searching my bag for dog treats.  Next time, Pluto.  Next time.  Because I will be back.

But now, I’m off to my favorite Outdoor Kitchen for a bite to eat before I have to resume my carpool duties this afternoon!
